Bsa buccaneer SE tuning regulator
Huma-Air pressure regulator for tuning the BSA buccaneer SE airrifle.
BSA Buccanneer SE tuning regulator.
For the new BSA Buccaneer SE we have designed a tuning regulator that can be pushed into the pressure tube. This regulator is vented to the atmosphere without any modification to your pressure tube. So no drilling in the tube and also no creeping up in power.
The benefits of the Huma-Air, BSA Buccaneer SE tuning regulator are:
- Higher accuracy of your rifle due to the elimination of the pelletspeed fluctuations
- A constant pellet speed over the full working pressure range.
- It will give you a full flat shotstring immediately.
- Adding a regulator to your airrifle will probably give you the biggest benefit in the tuning process.
- Often the rifle will make less noise due to better balance in air usage
When you order your Huma-Air, BSA Buccaneer SE tuning regulator you will receive:
- Your regulator preset to your own wishes
- A pressure scale in Bar’s on the regulator, for fine-tuning or re-adjustment
- We will include a “Huma -Air regulated” breech sticker
- Fitting instructions as pdf download
Huma-Air Quality Control
Huma Air regulators are CNC produced out of high grade aircraft aluminum and bronze. To guarantee a perfect product, every regulator is individually assembled, tested in a computerized simulation program and adjusted to the requested pressure.
We only use high-end materials and our belleville springs are designed for critical applications to achieve the highest repeat accuracy. This gives our regulators a repeat cycle less than 1% difference.
Huma Air provides a 2-year warranty on their regulatiors. Excluded from warranty are shipping costs and parts that are subject to normal wear and tear such as o-rings and valve discs.
Pressure settings of the Huma-Air, BSA Buccaneer SE tuning regulator
The Huma-Air, BSA Buccaneer SE tuning regulator come in the standard middle pressure range (MP: 70-150 bar output) covering sub 12 ft/lbs and FAC models.
They come preset on the most common pressure setting, or we will adjust it according to your personal wishes.
It is also equipped with a clear pressure scale label, so it’s very easy re-adjust or fine tune the pressure setting suitable to your wishes.

So far, I can comment on the mechanical aspects of adding this regulator to my Buccaneer.
The job was not very difficult, but one needs to be a little bit of a fixit-type to even get started. All in all, it is not a complicated thing to do.
The finish quality of the product is superb, and the delivery was pretty fast (only a few days internationally).
Once I have actual data to report, I’ll try to update this review.

Today I finished installing and testing this regulator in my Buccaneer, 25 caliber. I had Huma set it to 150 bar. I tested it with the Huma Air generic tester. I cycled it several times and it returned perfectly to 150 bar.
I studied the performance of the gun with JSB King Heavy MkII (33.95 Gr). I observed that the unregulated gun performance (velocity 629 fps) was obtained with -4 turns relative to the factory setting. I also observed an average increase of 10 fps for each turn. As I did not observe any blooming of velocity after many shots, I kept the final setting of +2 turns CW. This resulted in an average velocity of 680.4 fps over the first 24 shots (3 magazines). In addition, to the power gain, I observed very nice uniformity of 10 fps total spread over the 24 shots, and a standard deviation of only 2.4 fps. I saw similar uniformity from the 25.39 Gr pellet (King Heavy), but observed a smaller increase in velocity (Average 773.2 for this pellet; spread 11 fps, std dev 3.0 fps).
The performance of this gun now rivals that of my BSA R10 in uniformity. I’d have to do a well designed experiment to determine which is better, but I know the Buccaneer plus regulator is much less expensive, and makes a nice field gun that is lighter and easy to should and point. However, the R10 is a work of art and works great as is, of course.
I found the Huma Air instructions for the Buccaneer to be quite useful and did not need to refer to other materials, although that is always a good idea. When disassembling the gun, have the receiver part down and remove the pressure tube so that the spring, transfer port, steel ball, etc stay in place on the receiver. I opened up the transfer port to 0.1625, with I estimate would provide 17% higher throughput, if the flow varies as radius cube. This is just a bit over 4.1 mm as suggested.
I would recommend this product to anyone mechanically inclined that wishes to improve their Buccaneer.
